A military mental doctor at Fort Hood, Texas opened fire at an Army post which killed 12 and injured 31 people. A law enforcement official identified the shooting suspect as Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan. Authorities stated that they had killed the shooter immediately after but recanted and said that he was in stable condition in a hospital. Lt. Gen. Bob Cone stated that it was mistake and there was a lot of confusion at the hospital. “The shooting began around 1:30 p.m., when shots were fired at the base’s Soldier Readiness Center, where soldiers who are about to be deployed or who are returning undergo medical screening” Cone said. The reasons are unclear but it is suspected that he was upset about a scheduled deployment. This act of violence is considered to be the worst mass shooting in history at an U.S. military base.
