Grady High School vs. Brooklyn Tech
With little time left to recoop from last weeks loss the Engineers tried to fix a troubled defense that gave up 1082 yards in their 5 losses, and had trouble generating much offense. After last weeks debacle against the Utes the Engineers made a valiant effort to come back and save what little was left in thier season. Coming in they were 2-4 and were trying to make it back to the postseason for a consecutive season.
They had some trouble executing as they fumbled in the red zone in the first half, and had some lapses on offense as the score was 6-0. Tech went in to diliberate at the half. In the 3rd quarter the Engineers came out determined and got 8 points on a two-point conversion.
The Tech defense even recovered 2 fumbles. The Engineers ended up losing 14-8 but it was only one step closer to the playoffs for Grady who was still hungry for more. The Falcons defense had big stops when Tech tried to put together drives, and collected 3 sacks and 10 yards for a loss.
Falcons coach Andrew Jashyn was more focused on the team’s progress to the playoffs on a game to game basis. “We always worry about the playoffs week-to-week, and now we have 2 games to get in with Erasmus(2-4) and Tilden(3-4)”.
There offense was also in high gear with some big yards on the return from special teams. Coach Jashyn thought that the offensive line held up with quality blocks to give the Falcons offense legitimate room to breathe. “Once the o-line stepped up everything was working, the QB had time to get good reads and we have good recievers so he had some chances on offense”.
Junior running back Ikeem Williams (23 attempts 167 yds 2 TD’s) echoed his coach but also knew the tribulations ahead with Grand Street in their way. They lost to the Grand Street Wolves last week and looked to get some revenge. “They came in hard but we came in harder”. We are looking forward to playing Grand street, and we will take the field with any team”. We are going to be watching some game tape, and try to stop the other number 3 on that team”.
Last year Grand was 5-4 and have improved by going 7-1 this season.
The Falcons are grinding for a playoff apearance and with a big W over the Engineers they have found a way to consistently win when things look bleak. The collective effort of this team has been productive like when a tough pitcher gets a big out, and they have gotten the outs when they have mattered most.
